Keyboards & Digital Pianos

Troubleshooting

Turn off the "Fingered Chord" setting. With Fingered chord, keyboards make sounds only when playing the chord properly. The area of chord keyboard is the left of the split point (refer to the user's manual).

If you can't transfer songs, USB isn't recognised, or MIDI USB device won't install, please follow the following steps:

  1. Configure USB MIDI device first. Connect USB midi cable/device you have. Insert accompanying CD and complete installation of that device before connecting to keyboard.
  2. Connect the OUT to the IN on the keyboard. Connect the IN to the OUT on the keyboard (This may be different depending on the MIDI device being used. Please see the MIDI device instructions for proper connection.)
  3. Configure MIDI IN and MIDI OUT on the computer MIDI software. These must both be the same and named for the device/cable you installed. No matter what software is used MIDI IN and OUT MUST be configured in order to create connectivity between the software and the PC. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. If the customer does not know how to configure the MIDI IN and OUT with their Non-Casio software, they must contact their software vendor.
  4. Once this is installed, almost EVERY MIDI software has some TEST mode.5) Make sure Local Control = ON on the keyboard itself.6) If keyboard is in sleep mode (Lighted Keys are playing by themselves with no sound), please hit a key and re-activate the keyboard before data transfer will work.

Check all connections, batteries, A/C cables, and verify that the power outlet is working.

If you are still having issues, please contact our service team.

If you are not using a CASIO brand sustain pedal, your pedal may have the opposite polarity. It will sustain when the pedal is not pressed, and remove the sustain during the pedal is pressed. If you use a CASIO sustain pedal, it will only sustain during pressed. Many current CASIO instruments (such as Privia models) can automatically detect the polarity of a sustain pedal. To ensure that the detection is correct on these models, firstly connect the pedal to the appropriate jack, then turn the keyboard on using the power button being sure not to touch the pedal.

Please check the following items:
-Is there any headphones or an adapter plug in the PHONES jacks?

PHONE jack
- Is the power switched on?
- Check whether the sound volume is the minimum position.
- If there is a speaker ON/OFF function, check whether the speaker is ON position.

If you are still having issues, please contact our service team.

Some models can play sound through headphones and speakers at the same time. Check whether the speaker output is OFF position when connecting to the PHONE jack.

Disconnect and reconnect the cable connecting the computer and instrument, and set up a device "CASIO USB-MIDI" on Music Production Software. For the device setting method, please contact the software development manufacturer.

Some models have the auto-power off function. The piano (or keyboard) will turn off automatically to preserve power after a period of inactivity. To disable the auto-power off function, please refer to the users manual.
If the power turns off automatically even if the auto-power off function is disabled, or the power turns off soon after the power turned on, there may be a failure.

Check if the correct batteries specified in the users manual are used. Some models need to set the type of battery by the function of the piano (or keyboard). Please replace with new batteries, and note that you cannot mix the old batteries in it.

When connecting an external device (PC, Audio interface, Mixer, etc.), noise may be generated if it is wired in a loop. This phenomenon is called "ground loop noise" and not a failure of musical instruments. Noise may be improved by changing the connection method or by using a commercially available "USB Isolator" or "Ground Loop Isolator for Audio".

While Versatile Tone is selected, sound volume and timbre assigned to keyboard keys change depending on velocity. This causes no sound, or lower or higher sound when you press some keyboard keys.

  • Versatile Tones are for creating computer music, not for playing.
  • Versatile Tones are tones whose names are starting with "VERSATILE" or "Vst". There are some keys to which no sound is assigned when a tone in a drum set category is selected.

This is likely to be caused by the headphones not being compatible. The multi-pole plug for smartphones is not available. Please use headphones that have a three-pole stereo plug. If the sounds from headphones are small even if the volume is maximum, please confirm the impedance of your headphones. High impedance headphones may reduce the volume of sound.

Ensure that the headphone jack has been inserted all the way into the PHONE jack of the instrument.

Do not use the headphone with Multi-pole plug connectors such as dedicated for iPhone or smartphone.

Note for using conversion plug
When connecting the headphone with 3.5mm stereo mini-plug to the instrument with 6.3mm stereo standard jack, please use the adaptor of 6.3 mm stereo plug from 3.5 mm stereo jack.

When the output of your conversion plug was monaural (MONO), please use the stereo conversion plug.

Monaural: One black line at the end of the plug
Stereo: Two black lines at the end of the plug

To prevent erroneous operation, some models need a long press to the power button to turn off the power. If you want to turn off, please press and hold the power button for 1 second or longer. For models which do not require a long press, please remove AC adaptor or all batteries, and then reconnect AC adaptor or set the batteries according to the user's manual. The problem cannot be resolved even after turning the power off and on again, there may be a problem with the product. In such a case, please contact our authorised repair center.

The battery may be weak. Please replace with new batteries or use the AC adaptor.

There are some models that leak a little sound when the volume is turned down to the minimum position, but this is not a malfunction.

When you use MIDI output from the instrument with a layer split function, the damper (CC64), sostenuto (CC66), and soft (CC67) pedals of main control change messages are output to the main part (usually 1ch) and to the layer split part channel (2-4ch, etc.). This specification is the purpose of same performance expression as the built-in sound source, when playing by connecting a MIDI sound source to the outside equipment or when importing MIDI data into a PC and using it.If you don't need pedal messages to multiple MIDI channels, please use the setting to exclude unnecessary messages. If your instrument doesn't support this setting, please exclude it from the settings (ON / OFF function for message reception for each channel, MIDI IN Filter, etc.) of the receiving device (including PC software). For the settings of the receiving equipment, please contact the seller of the equipment.

  • The channels of damper, sostenuto, and soft of MIDI messages are different depending on models. (Sent on 1-3ch / 1-4ch, etc.)
  • Depending on your sequence software, the messages from multiple channels may be mixed on the same track.
  • In addition to the above, a large number of MIDI messages (intermediate pedal values) are sent by a single pedal operation on the models with supported half pedal.

After the USB memory is inserted to the instrument, the instrument cannot be operated temporarily because it prepares (mounts) for exchanging data between the USB memory and the instrument. It may take tens of seconds to complete mounting with the instrument and become operational. The mounting is done every time you insert the USB memory to the instrument.

The data in the USB memory may be damaged. Please confirm the data, and read the correct data again.* When you use CT-S1000V, the lyric tone may not sound if a "Wrong Data" error message is displayed when reading "ALL DATA" (when you press the key in Lyrics mode, the sound is not produced). If you cannot improve even after reading the correct data, please restore the lyric tone by the following methods:<Preset lyric tone>- When you read all data from a USB memory, please click here.- When you transfer the lyric sounds by using "Lyric Creator", please click here.<User lyric tone>- Please use “Lyric Creator” to transfer the lyric tone again. For the details, please click here.

The digital piano realises the touch performance almost same as playing grand piano by adopting a mechanism of hammer weight. Therefore, it is normal to hear the sound of hammer moves up and down interlinked with keys by striking keys.

Ensure that pedal cable is securely connected to piano jack. For more detail of connecting the pedal, refer to "how to assemble the stand" on the user's manual.

You can not remove the object from the digital piano by yourself. In case the object inside the piano has conductivity, it may cause an accident so please contact our authorised repair center.

GENERAL USAGE

An electronic musical instrument with a MIDI terminal can be used as a MIDI keyboard. And, an electronic musical instrument with a USB (to host) terminal can be used as a MIDI keyboard by connecting to a computer via a USB cable.

MIDI: MIDI means Musical Instrument Digital Interface is a worldwide standard for digital signals that allows music data (key press and release, the strength of touch, etc.) to be exchanged between electronic musical instruments or between electronic musical instruments and computer.

General MIDI: GENERAL MIDI specifies the detailed sound source operations not specified by the MIDI standard, and it provides a high level of compatibility between different MIDI instruments that support General MIDI, enabling the reuse of song data. There are General MIDI Level 1 and General MIDI Level 2 depending on the level of compatibility.

No. Please be sure to turn off your keyboard with the power button on your keyboard.

If you shut off the power source for your keyboard by pulling off an AC adapter or operating the power tap to shut off the power, there is a case of destroying the tone data of your keyboard because of skipping power off sequence of software. When you pull off an AC adapter or shut off the power source of your keyboard with a power tap, please follow the procedure below.

1. Stop rhythm or song by pushing the “START/STOP” button on your keyboard.
2. Turn off your keyboard by pushing the power button on your keyboard.
3. Be sure all the LEDs and displays are off.
4. Then you can disconnect the AC adapter or operate the power tap to shut off the power.

  • Before cleaning the product, be sure to unplug the AC adaptor and/or remove the batteries from the instrument.-
  • Wipe the product with a soft, dry cloth. * Do not use a tissue, which can cause scratching.
  • When soiling is more serious, moisten a soft cloth with a weak solution of water and a mild neutral detergent, wring out all excess moisture from the cloth, and then wipe the product. After that, wipe again with a separate soft dry cloth.
  • Do not use any cleaning agents, chlorine disinfectants, sanitizing wipes, or other items that include benzene, organic solvents, alcohol, or other solvents for cleaning. Doing so can cause discoloration, deformation, paint peeling, cracking, etc.

You can use the MIDI standard apps connected with a smart device. For the smart devices (terminals) that have been confirmed to work, please click the following URL

We do not recommend keeping it that way because that may damage keys. Please keep your product horizontally with key top position.

OCTAVE SHIFT allows you to shift the octave of a pitch to higher or lower.
This is useful to make it more comfortable to play on your keyboard and enables you to play the base tone which is not originally on the keyboard (For example, if you set it one octave lower, you can play a note one octave lower than the lowest note of keyboard).

If your LK series keyboard has the function to play back a standard MIDI file, then the keyboard can play back the song and light the appropriate keys (with or without playing the notes) so that you can learn the song.In order for you to accomplish this, you need to set the navigate channels on the keyboard. By default, the right-hand lesson part corresponds to MIDI channel 4, and the left-hand lesson part corresponds to MIDI channel 3. For more information regarding navigate channels, please refer to the user's guide.

The keyboard may not light up using the default arrangement of the MIDI file, so you may need to edit the channels of the MIDI file accordingly before you transfer it to the keyboard. This can be accomplished using MIDI-compliant music editing software on your computer (sold separately). Please assign the right-hand lesson part to MIDI channel 4, and the left-hand lesson part to MIDI channel 3.

There is a possibility that the tone data of your keyboard is damaged if you turn off your keyboard while rhythm or song is running. This is because a power off procedure of software is processed abnormally in seldom cases. So, when you turn off your keyboard, please follow the procedure below.1. Stop rhythm or song by pushing the “START/STOP” button on your keyboard.2. Turn off your keyboard by pushing the power button on your keyboard.

Versatile Tones are tones whose names are starting with "VERSATILE" or "Vst". Versatile Tones are for creating computer music, not for playing.

Versatile Tones assign performance sounds that are characteristic of a particular musical instrument (such as a guitar glissando, fret noise, etc.) to each keyboard key (note) and velocity.

For information about the sounds assigned for each versatile tone and velocity, see "Versatile Tone Map".

No. Before you take out batteries, turn off your keyboard with the power button on the keyboard. There is a case of destroying the tone data of your keyboard if you take out batteries without turning off your keyboard. When you take out batteries from your keyboard, please follow the procedure below.

1. Stop rhythm or song by pushing the “START/STOP” button on your keyboard.

2. Turn off your keyboard by pushing the power button on your keyboard.

3. Be sure all the LEDs and displays are off.

4. Then you can take batteries out from your keyboard.

  • After wiping the product two or three times with a non-alcohol sanitising wipe, use a soft, dry cloth to wipe it dry.
  • Note that failure to wipe the product dry can cause streaks to remain.
  • Do not use any cleaning agents, chlorine disinfectants, sanitizing wipes, or other items that include benzene, organic solvents, alcohol, or other solvents for cleaning. Doing so can cause discolouration, deformation, paint peeling, cracking, etc.
  • In case when the product is shared with other users, it is recommended to disinfect both hands before and after use.

Yes, but even in that case, turn off your keyboard once a day. There is a case that the tone data of your keyboard is damaged if you keep it playing without power off sequence for certain long terms. So, you are recommended to enable the APO function or turn off the instrument regularly with the power off button when you disable the function.

You can connect the instrument to a commercially available stereo or amplifier to play at a loud volume, or connect it to a recording device to record the performance. Please connect a commercially available connection cable (audio cable) to the LINE OUT terminal (standard jack) or PHONES / OUTPUT terminal (stereo mini jack) depending on the model.

*Connection cable (audio cable) is not included in the instrument.
* Please prepare a standard plug or stereo mini plug on one side of the instrument, and another side is connected to the input terminal of an external device. For the details, please refer to "To connect to audio (equipment) or amplifier" in the user's manual.

By turning off the local control function, it is possible to separate the keyboard and sound source of the instrument, and sound is not produced from the instrument. Please refer to the user's manual of each model for the operation method.

The following products are capable of audio input.

  • Products with the "LINE IN" terminal
