BABY-G x Romance Was Born Collaboration
CASIO Australia is proud to announce the release of their Baby-G limited edition collaboration models with Australian fashion designers, Romance Was Born.
Tying into their ‘Sincerely Yours’ Spring/Summer ’16 collection, the collaboration incorporates prints from this range across two base Baby-G models fit for two different personas. The shimmery candy pink watch features pops of colour across the layered face and detailed band print, whereas the white watch evokes a sportier look, featuring a more streamlined case with shades of blue across the printed band and number indexes.
With their reputation for taking any source of inspiration and transforming it into an element of fantasy, Romance Was Born have brought a sense of nostalgia to the collaboration design. Reminiscing on the youthful recollection of owning your first intricate jewellery box – an ornate, prized possession hiding your most valuable pieces – Romance Was Born have brought that childhood memory to life again with their Baby-G design. Each watch comes packaged in a wooden jewellery box, featuring elaborate gold foiling matching the watch prints and complete with all the details, like blue satin quilted interior and metal clasps.
Renowned for taking the world by storm as the must-have, iconic watch of the nineties and being available in so many colourways, it wasn’t long before one of Baby-G’s main signatures became an expression of colour: an attribute that the brand shares with Romance Was Born, with the designers commenting: “We draw a lot on nostaglia when we design, and growing up we have such fond memories of Baby-G, we loved all the different colours you could get. When we were asked to collaborate we were really excited to create our own watch using our prints. It’s been a really enjoyable process for us”.
Far from being a case of form over function as many timepieces are, these watches are as practical as they are pretty. Born from a developer’s dream of “creating a watch that never breaks”, Baby-G watches are completely shock and water resistant – being able to withstand any knocks, drops or spills thanks to their internal shock-absorbing technology.
The collaboration is an Australian first; although global tie-ups with other brands are announced annually for CASIO’s umbrella of timepiece brands, this release is the first Baby-G collaboration exclusively for Australia. Production is limited with only 200 models being produced as part of the capsule release, with 100 of each colourway being available at RRP $299.
The collaboration release will be available soon from David Jones, Wallace Bishop, Angus & Coote & Shiels.
