Expressing the beauty of Japanese armour and helmets with the traditional kurogane-iro hue: Melding tradition and innovation for a regal sense of presence

Adopting the traditional Japanese hue of kurogane-iro as the theme colour, these new timepieces integrate the MR-G worldview of innovative crafting with a time-honoured sense of Japanese aesthetic beauty. When the iron used to make traditional armour and helmets is heated, it takes on a deep shade of blue-green. The watches capture this subtle hue with a deep-layer hardening process and green diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating applied to the titanium exterior. The nearly black appearance and elegant depth of the green harmoniously capture the essence of the MR-G passion for delivering ultimate strength and beauty.

Kurogane-iro: A colour expressing the regal sensibilities of the warrior

Kurogane-iro (literally “iron colour”) is a rich, dark blue-green hue that iron takes on when heated. Revered as a traditional Japanese hue imbued with refined elegance, this distinctive tone is brought to life on the titanium exterior components using a meticulous process combining deep-layer hardening and a green DLC coating. This finish not only enhances the material’s strength but also achieves a profound depth of colour, embodying the essence of Japanese aesthetic sensibilities. The result is a bold yet understated presence that captures the MR-G spirit — an unwavering pursuit of both strength and beauty.

Metal band model: The majestic presence of full-metal craftsmanship

MRG-B2000BG

The pure titanium band exudes solidity, contributing to the watch’s substantial and commanding elegance, a sure sign of the stately allure of full-metal design. The metal’s rich texture is enhanced with a green DLC coating applied to the bezel, case, and band. Gold ion-plating (IP) is used on the front screws and crown, in a treatment inspired by Japanese traditional armour.

Dura Soft band model: With recrystallised titanium bezel

MRG-B2000RG

Recrystallised titanium is employed for the bezel, showcasing a distinctive crystalline pattern to evoke the nie crystals visible in the temper pattern of Japanese swords. A green DLC coating is applied to the bezel, as well as the titanium case. Flexible fluoro rubber offering outstanding durability is used for the band, which features a geometric bishamon kikko tortoiseshell pattern — a time-honoured symbol of strength appearing on the warrior-deity Bishamonten’s armour and helmet.

Dial design restating a traditional Japanese motif

The dial’s base surface features a tortoiseshell pattern, a traditional symbol of strength and good fortune, rendered in deep shade of green verging on black. A motif reminiscent of folding fans or screens adorns the perimeter. The indexes are designed to evoke the gentle curvature of Japanese swords, leveraging the fine processing technologies of Yamagata Casio to achieve the sharp-edged forms and grind-mark finish.
